Check it out! This month a bouquet I designed for my friend Lacey was featured in December's issue of GALA WEDDINGS! What a rewarding feeling to see your work featured on the newsstands. And of all the dozens of bouquets I've designed, this one is still in my top 3! What could be more perfect than a couple giant succulents paired with the delicate stems of a bright gloriosa? So beautiful!

I'm sure many of you already know about my exciting news, but for those of you that don't, this will be the last wedding I'm posting on the blog for a while because....we're expecting!!! Baby Laidlaw is due to arrive early January 2012 and for that reason, I have decided to spend the next 2 months getting ready for our wee-one to arrive.

Of course I'll still post the professional pictures of the ceremony and reception when I receive them, but this is just your heads up that things are going to be slowing down quite a bit around here. But no need to fret, I've already got 3 weddings on the calendar for next year and taking clients starting in mid-March. So please continue to send your referrals my way! My dear friend Briana, a former co-worker at Fari Custom Home Builders, was married to her darling Phillip this weekend at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. Not only was I privileged to attend as a guest, but the couple also asked me to design their flowers.

Over the course of many months Briana and I planned and schemed over lunch dates to make sure the flowers were just right for her perfect day. And even though the anemone, the flower she wanted most, was going to be out-of-season in October, we were lucky enough to find a couple bunches and have them flown in for the big event.

Words cannot even begin to describe how much I loved designing these flowers and how perfectly they fit the bride and her venue - soft, classic, elegance! Here is a little sneak peak from her photographer Kamee June of the happy couple, as well as some snapshots from my iPhone of their stunning reception. Truly, such a beautiful wedding for a beautiful bride!

I honestly can't wait to see the rest of the images from their photographer in the weeks and months ahead. They are sure to turn some heads!

Almost one year ago I started working with the beautiful bride-to-be Taylor Reynolds and her fiancé (my childhood friend) Kevin Shively. Over the course of many months, together we planned and schemed to make sure their wedding flowers were absolutely exquisite and reflected their vintage style and the rustic elegance of El Adobe Restaurant in Old Towne San Juan Capistrano, the gorgeous location of their wedding. I have to say, I think we nailed it! Just take a look and you'll see what I mean.

It's hard to believe that just 2 short years ago my dear friend Lisa and her fiance Rodney took a chance on me, affording me the opportunity to design the flowers for their summer wedding. I was new on the scene with only a years worth of experience at a flower shop, mostly doing the dirty work. But nonetheless, they put their trust in me and I delightfully accepted the challenge.

Who would have thought that such a small moment in time could carry me so far and make me feel so fulfilled as a designer? And it was nothing short of miraculous that my first design job ended up being featured in one of the most talked about wedding magazines on the shelves, Real Simple Weddings 2010. It's still so unreal!

I can still remember a friend pulling me aside during a party a couple years ago and telling me the simplest words that really had a deep impact on me. He said "Aubrey, your work is really good. You should think about doing this full-time." Coming from someone I really admired and looked up to as an entrepreneur of his own budding photography business, I really let those words soak and thought to myself "Yah, why not do this full-time?"

Now, since that time, It's been an incredible 2 years of designing the wedding flowers for more than 50 brides and almost a dozen private events and parties all over Southern California. To be where I'm at today personally and professionally is truly an accomplishment in and of itself and I could not be happier! Thank you everyone for your love, support, and helping me make a dream come true!

A couple of weekends ago I had the pleasure of designing the flowers for this whimsical reception at the Lake Forest Country Club for the beautiful bride Courtney and her handsome groom Erik. For the entry arrangement the bride provided me with the most beautiful vase from Anthropologie. I think it looks stunning filled with her wedding colors of orange, peach, ivory, and seafoam green.

For the centerpieces the bride opted for a more vintage look with a collection of glass bottles filled with whispy wildflowers. I love how cheerful her colors make this space. Don't you? And lastly, the groom's mother added on a wreath last minute to top off the fireplace with a little something special. I think it was the perfect touch! Such a gorgeous reception for a gorgeous couple.

Which is why when I received this message from the bride Shannon and her adoring husband Adam, that I was so elated. It read, "Everything was absolutely gorgeous!! Thank you Aubrey for stellar floral masterpieces!!"

While sorting through my client folders today I came a across the notes I scribbled down at Tommy & Amanda's initial wedding consultation. With reference to the overall wedding style I wrote in big, bold, letters: VINTAGE CHIC! And after looking at these photographs of her beautiful bouquets and things, I think we hit the nail on the head!

To me this bouquet encompasses the classic, yet vintage look the bride was going for. And luckily she agreed! Upon first sight she exclaimed, "I'm OBSESSED!" Music to a floral designer's ears!

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of designing flowers for my friend Emily and her HUGE wedding party. There were SEVEN bridesmaids and TWELVE groomsmen! WOW! It was definitely a lot of work, but also a lot of fun designing all those bouquets and boutonnieres.

I love that the bride opted for an elegant all white bouquet filled with tissuey blooms of peonies and garden roses which are perfectly in season and smelled so fragrant! For her bridesmaids she went with a more loose, garden-like bouquet in pale pinks. I love them both!

Later the next day as I was perusing through the images on my camera when I received a text message from the bride. It read: "Hi Aubrey!!! I just wanted to send you a quick thank you for the beautiful flowers you put together for our wedding. You did an amazing job and everything was beautiful! Big hugs from the both of us!" Put a big 'ole smile on my face!

It feels so good to have my fingers in the flowers again! Stripping thorns, clipping stems, plucking guard petals. It's good to be back! And just in time to design these gorgeous flowers for a gorgeous bride.

Take a look at some of the flowers she and her wedding party will be showing off at her spring wedding. The bridal bouquet is my absolute favorite. I love the way the soft transitions between the peonies, ranunculus, and sweet pea, and the way the fern sort of peak through for texture and dimension. It's beautiful...and smells insane!

Oh how I wish you could smell this lovely bridal bouquet with all of it's peonies and tulips and ranunculus. It's like heaven on earth being surrounded by these glorious flowers!

I had so much fun designing this classic black, white and red wedding for my dear friend Katie Hatch's wedding. She was an absolutely joy to work with and left the majority of the creative control to me. Oh how I love that!

For Katie's wedding party she wanted a classic look which we created with the timeless red rose and a few other fun blooms like anemone and freesia for the parents. Then for the centerpieces we stepped up the creativity a notch and designed these beautiful white boxes tied with black and white ribbons, each adorned with a bouquet of red and white blooms. I absolutely love the way they turned out and I hope the bride and groom did too!

With just a few days notice I had the pleasure of designing these garden-like bouquets for Alex & Sophie's backyard wedding right here in Huntington Beach. It was fun and exciting to take on such a last minute challenge and to try to satisfy the requests of the bride to create a "hand-picked, unstructured bouquet," a style I am quickly learning to love. Sweet, simple, and perfect for this backyard wedding.

Huntington Beach, what a great place to get married!!! I had so much fun working with Emily and her mother Jean on the design of her wedding flowers and it was a real treat to see it all come together. From the beginning Emily let me know that her two favorite flowers were sunflowers and pink gerbera daisies and the rest she left up to me!

I think the images of their special day turned out beautifully as well. Here's a snippet from the email I received with a few images sent from the Coffey family: "We are very pleased with the photos and I'm sure you'll want a few for your site. You did an amazing job, and the photos certainly capture that! Hope they bring a smile to your face!"

Well Coffey family, they most certainly did! It looks like it was a picture perfect wedding day and it was an absolute pleasure to share it with you. Congratulations and best wishes for the future.

What a weekend! I can't remember the last time I was that busy with wedding flowers! But you know what, I wouldn't have it any other way! It's amazing how passionate I've become about this "job" of mine. Each wedding has offered it's own challenges, joys, ups, downs, and everything in between. But that's why I love it. There's always something new to learn!

This weekend I had the pleasure of designing some stunning arrangements for the wedding of my friend Liz Haefer. I was elated when she told me her colors were yellow and grey. And even more so when she told me of her love for peonies and billy buttons. My mind began racing with all the wonderful possibilities this could bring. Here's just a sneak peak at how the centerpieces turned out. You'll have to wait til later for the rest from her professional photog. I have a feeling they're going to be amazing!!!

I've had the pleasure of working with a lot of wonderful couples over the last year, but I can honestly say that this wedding was one of the sweetest! Words can't describe the love I have for the Roche family. They have been among our family's closest friends for nearly 20 years. So it's no wonder that I put my heart and soul into these beautiful flowers for their daughter Erin's wedding.

Together Cole & Erin were joined for time and all eternity in the Newport Beach LDS Temple and it was a glorious day to be apart of, as I was privileged to attend the ceremony and later celebrate with them at their Laguna Niguel reception. It was truly a day I will remember fondly forever. Congratulations Erin & Cole. I love you both and wish you all the happiness in the world!

And on a sidenote: The last two pics are my favorite! The DJ was my handsome brother Scotty who I miss like crazy (he's attending school right now at BYU-Hawaii). And the last one is my victory picture! I wore my highest heels in hopes of snatching up that coveted bouquet and I did! I think that means I'm next? Let's hope so!

Over the last few months I've had the pleasure of designing some exquisite flowers! These beauties I created for Brian and Tiffany's Hacienda Wedding this weekend are among some of my favorites! Mostly because I LOVE working with succulents. They just have this unique ability to transform an ordinary grouping of flowers into an extraordinary one. But don't take my word for it. This wedding was so much fun to be a part of! My dear friend Nicole called me up on afternoon back in July to let me know her littler sister's wedding florist fell through and asked if I'd be interested in designing the flowers. The only catch? The wedding was just 4 short weeks away.

Of course I love a challenge just as much as I love Nicole, so I accepted and went straight to work. Within a matter of days the flower selections were set, the supplies ordered, and we were well on our way to a picture perfect wedding.

And wasn't it just that! Picture perfect. Here are a few shots Nicole shared with me of the Mr. & Mrs. on their beautiful August wedding day.

Several weeks ago I was busy tying up a bouquet for this beautiful bride's July wedding. As I peered through the window panes, I thought the day was doomed to the foggy remnants of June gloom.

Luckily, when the flowers arrived at the Newport Beach LDS Temple, they brightened things right up. Literally! Take a look...

{ Cole & Erin :: Summer Sunset Wedding }

Many months ago at my floral consultation with the Erin, I had this crazy idea to create her flowers around a tropical summer sunset. You know, kinda like the one you see HERE. I thought it would be the perfect pop of color to compliment her black, ivory, and gold color palette. Plus, it's August and who doesn't love some warm, vibrant blooms to set the summertime mood!

I chose to build the bouquets around this gorgeous, no, exquisite Baroness Garden Rose, and fluffed it up with some other rich blooms like lisianthus, freesia, and astilbe. And to cool things off a little, I added some fragrant mint leaves. I think they're the perfect addition to this picture-perfect bouquet.

John & Sara are as cool as they come. I remember getting the phone call from Sara many months ago, letting me know of their "secret" engagement. She didn't want the word to leak out just yet, as the ring was still in cue. So the two of us quietly began planning the wedding flowers, keeping in mind her color scheme of blue, white, yellow, and peach.

It was also important to Sara that we somehow make recognition of her new last name: Blue Star. Yes! That's her new last name! So fitting. So I carefully picked out these beautiful blue tweedia that mimic the shape of a star and scattered them throughout these unique cattleya orchid blooms. The result is something fun, fresh, and oh-so John & Sara!

To say the month of August has been busy would be an absolute understatement! I can honestly say that when I decided to give this "hobby job" a try, I never in a million years dreamed I would be this busy. But I'm not complaining! Oh, no! I LOVE IT!!! So in a way, I feel the need to say thank you to each and every one of my brides! You know who you are. Thank you!

Here are a few photographs that I shot of the flowers I designed for Amber's August wedding in Chino Hills. I adore her clean palette of black, white, and green. And I loved her idea of including fresh limes in the centerpieces. I hope they were enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

My dear friend Ryan Finck picked an AWESOME woman to be his bride! From the moment I meant Naomi I knew she was PERFECT for him! And I'm not just saying that because she let me design her wedding flowers! Although that helped. A little.

Naomi was a lovely bride and a joy to work with! She knew exactly what she wanted: yellow sunflowers, black and white gerbera daisies, a pop of purple, and then left the rest up to me. Easy enough!

I was absolutely elated when my dear friend Megan asked me to design the flowers for her Southern California Reception. I knew from the beginning that I had her trust which always makes the design process so much more enjoyable for me, and everyone involved.

While shopping for her containers I came across these whimsical "over-sized teacups" and knew Megan would love them. And I was right! Upon first sight of her flowers this weekend she said, and I quote: "They are exactly what I wanted!" Such sweet words to my soul. I'm a visual person. No surprise there, right? If I'm going to do something, I have to envision it happening first. This is what happens every time I sit down with a new client and talk flowers. Of course, this wedding for Dane & Chelsea was no different.

I was provided with 13 beautiful white porcelain containers and asked to create a centerpiece that was cheerful and bright, and the rest was up to me! Don't you just love brides like that? So I drew up a few sketches, selected some of my favorite spring blooms, worked a little magic, and voila! My vision was a success.

Be sure to also take a look at the gorgeous garland of lemon leaves she had me create to garnish the wet bar. My talented Mother assisted me in wiring on dozens of fresh lemons, oranges, tangerines, and kumquats. The scent was like a burst of sunshine!

A lot of times you'll hear people tell you "It's not smart to do business with friends." And in some cases, I can understand why. But I will honestly say, some of the BEST weddings I've done have been for my nearest and dearest friends. Take for example, the Goodsell family. I've known Glen and Amy for years, drove their daughters to early morning seminary, and even babysat their wee ones. So it was truly an honor when they asked me to design the flowers for Dane and Chelsea's special day.

Dave and Courtney are in L-O-V-E! And so am I...with their flowers of course! Today the happy couple will be tying the eternal knot in the Newport Beach LDS Temple and later showing off these gorgeous blooms at a backyard reception in their hometown of Mission Viejo, CA.

And here's a sweet little something about the adorable couple: The two have known each other for years; since High School (maybe longer), and had always been "just friends." But when the pair attended BYU-Hawaii this last year, they fell madly in love. Isn't it the best when friends fall in love? I couldn't be happier for this perfect pair!

This weekend my dear friend Chelsea tied the eternal knot with her sweetheart Dane in the Newport Beach LDS Temple, and then celebrated their little hearts out at their beautiful backyard reception in Laguna Niguel, CA.

I honestly can't thank her enough for the awesome opportunity I had to design and create her one of a kind bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. She was an absolute joy throughout the entire planning process and her wedding day was truly spectacular. Happy forever after Dane & Chelsea!

{ Making Something With "The Leftovers" }

Let me tell you a story about a dinner appointment I had on my mission nearly 6 years ago. It was during a time when I was serving in a very rural part of Minnesota (think one farmhouse every 5 miles). In this small town there lived a sweet old lady who invited my companion and I over for "supper." While we sat and talked, she began telling us about the meal she had prepared for us. She told of how she had tons and tons of fruits, veggies, and other leftovers in her fridge, so she decided to make a lasagna with everything (and anything!) she had. Let's just say it was the most interesting thing I've ever tasted. There were mushrooms, celery, peppers, onions, eggs (Yes, eggs!), and several other "leftover" ingredients.

So why am I telling you this strange story about a weird meal I ate on my mission? I'm not quite sure, other than the fact that when I was cleaning up from my double-wedding-weekend, I figured I better do something with all "the leftovers." Kind of like that "special" lasagna I had all those years ago. Awe, the memories!

The simple and elegant palette of white, gold, and a touch of Tiffany box blue are all you need to create a modest and elegant appeal. { Mother's Day Arrangements :: Part II }

Somehow amidst all the madness of a wedding, birthday and Mother's Day, I found time to make these sweet little somethings for the special women in my life. The first arrangement may not look like much, but just go with me on this one. These delicate and highly fragrant bells are known as Lily of the Valley. While normally wildly expensive, I found them on Friday selling at the flower mart for a mere fraction of the cost and just HAD to have some. Don't they look so angelic arranged in this antique blue bottle?

Aside from this flower's beauty and incredible, I mean INCREDIBLE smell, I love the meanings associated with this bloom. According to Christian legend, Lily of the Valley came into being from Eve's tears after she was driven with Adam from the Garden of Eden. It is also considered to be the sign of Christ's second coming and is believed to exude the power of men to envision a better world. How can you not LOVE this flower. Precisely the reason I gifted them to my beautiful Mother!

This second arrangement was designed for my dear Grandma Janice. With a few hydrangea I built up the base and added some sweet-smelling peonies, a couple roses from our garden, and garnished it with a few viburnum and astilbe. A beautiful arrangement that's perfect for a beautiful grandmother!

I had so much fun up at the LA Flower Mart this morning! I just couldn't get enough of all the spring flowers in bloom. It was seriously a tough decision to pick which flowers I wanted to use for all my Mother's Day orders, but after seeing the gorgeous hydrangea in all their bold and beautiful colors, I was sold! And I just had to have some of those gorgeous viburnum. And oh how I wish you could smell those peonies! They are fragrant beyond belief! I hope the recipients enjoy these arrangements as much as I did. Happy Mother's Day!

You've seen her Wedding Album, now take a look at her Bridals. Wowzers! Talk about a beautiful bride. Back in March I had the pleasure of designing a blushing bouquet for Maryann's bridal portraits at the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, minutes from the home I grew up in.

For the bouquet Maryann pretty much gave me creative reign. Her only specifications were that it was soft, pink, and feminine. To complete the request I decided on a handful of fragrant freesia, half a dozen mini callas, a bundle of pure white sweet pea, and garnished with a few cymbidium orchids. Mission accomplished!

{ Wild Flower Easter Egg Arrangements }

For years I've wanted to try my hand at these cute little Easter egg arrangements, and now that everyone in my family is over the age of dying and hiding eggs, I thought it time to make something happen.

Don't you LOVE the way they turned out? I love that they cost me nearly nothing! I simply used a carton of brown eggs from the local Farmer's Market, some spring blooms from my parent's yard (with a few ranunculus thrown in from my weekend excursion to The Flower Fields), and placed them atop some mercury glass candle sticks for an oh-so-pretty centerpiece. How lovely!

I hope you all have a fabulous Easter, surrounded with family, friends, and the things that matter most. Like pretty flowers, of course! Happy Easter everyone! See you back here real soon.

There just aren't words to describe how much I love working with flowers. On the days I design, I find myself getting lost in the work, and somehow the minutes turn into hours, and before you know it, what once was a mess of stems in buckets is a spectacular, one-of-a-kind creation!

This weekend I had the opportunity to lose myself again while I designed flowers for my friends Phil Romero & Jenni Jones' Long Beach wedding. Their garden themed reception was a wonderful chance to experience a new design genre and try something a little different.

I think the results were stunningly beautiful! And so did the bride. I received this text from her after she saw her flowers for the first time, "Thank you so much!!! The flowers are the most beautiful think I've ever seen! You're amazing!" Well thanks Jenni, it was my pleasure! Now enjoy some pretty pictures...

The Hadley's Newport Beach reception was absolutely beautiful! After setting all of the arrangements I snapped this photo of one of the tables to show off just how amazing everything turned out. Love that song! It's been running through my mind all morning as I worked on these gorgeous arrangements for my friend Bryan Hadley & his lovely wife Maryann's wedding. It was such a pleasure creating their 20 amazing centerpieces, and of course my favorite part...the bridal bouquet! Aren't those red roses exquisite? So romantic!

Spring has sprung! Well, at least it did this weekend for my friends Megan & Peter. I had the pleasure of designing all of the flowers for their March wedding this last Saturday. Their theme, in case you hadn't guessed already, was "A Bicycle Built For Two," which was adorable because Peter proposed to Megan while on a bike ride down the Southern California coast. Love it!

While driving through Coto De Caza on my way to the reception site, I got this amazing text from the bride "Aubrey!!!!! I love my bouquet!!!! I haven't seen other flowers yet, but I absolutely love my bouquet (as does everyone else)." Totally made all the long hours of designing and creating worth it!

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of proving some beautiful flowers for the baby shower of a dear friend of mine, Lauren Chamberlin. In case the color palette didn't already give it away, she's expecting a beautiful baby girl, in March! To celebrate her pending arrival I created a simple arrangement using a base of fragrant geranium leaves, white hydrangea, tulips, roses, hyacinths, and of course my signature succulents. I hope she loved it as much as I did!

This morning I opened up my email to find a lovely little surprise from Kristin over at Blue Sky's Studio. She sent over a few beautiful images of the flowers I did for the Richard Nixon Library Wedding back in January, along with this sweet little note: "You did such an amazing, beautiful job with the all of the flowers...we were definitely impressed." Thank you Kristin and the beautiful bride and groom for making it such a lovely wedding to be a part of.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day this year! I might not have had a special Valentine to spend the day with, but I sure enjoyed me some beautiful flowers all day long! Among all the many, many arrangements I made this weekend, this was one of my favorites.

I shared this special piece made with fringed tulips, hydrangea, succulents, cymbidiums, and roses with my wonderful parents. I hope rhey know how much I truly love and appreciate all they have done and continue to do for me! Happy Valentines Day everyone!

I can't say enough wonderful things about the beautiful bride Jeriann and her adoring husband Travis. Back in December, the talented designer Hannah Koo and I had the pleasure of designing the flowers for their wedding at The Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. The two were just an absolute joy to work with. I've never met a couple more in love!

Now let's fast forward to this morning. While going through my emails, I found the most wonderful email from Jeriann in my inbox, along with a myriad of photographs, and was absolutely overjoyed as I read through it. I thought I'd share little snippets of it with you, along with some of the incredible images from her special day.

"...Travis and I are in the process of writing our thank you notes and we just can't seem to say enough about how wonderful everything was. Including the amazing work you and Hannah put into completing our vision. We were so thrilled..."

This past weekend I attended the wedding of a dear friend and her sweetheart at the Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. If you've never been to the venue before, it's a knock-out location for a glamorous celebration. Speaking of glamorous...check out the high-glam flowers the bride had me create for her wedding day. So unique and so her! I wish I had pics of all the boutonnieres and corsages as well, but you'll have to wait along with me for the photographer to share those. Can't wait!

If unique is what you like, take a look at this incredible creation! At the request of the bride the bouquet was designed with a grouping of succulents, green cymbidium orchids, and fuchsia gloriosa for a punch of color. For the groom's boutonniere she wanted a simpler approach with a small cluster of green succulents. The combination was stunning!

After tying the knot in the San Diego LDS Temple, this handsome couple set sail on a sunset cruise through the Newport Harbor. The bride held a beautiful bouquet comprised of Sahara and Vendela roses, Charlie Brown cymbidiums, spray roses, Hypercium, Monkey tail, and glamorous Swarovski Crystals. While the groom's boutonniere featured a single cymbidium and some soft white spray roses. The combination was simply delicious!

It's so fun when I get the chance to do flowers for my friend's weddings. I became buds with Brad, the groom, back in September of 2008 when I went to San Francisco for Labor Day weekend. And I became friends with Miss Lindsey, the bride, in March when we traveled to London and Paris for my birthday. And now these two fabulous friends are married! I love it when that happens.

Last summer I had the pleasure of providing unique arrangements for the Orange County Museum of Art's Live Auction, held at the Westin South Coast Plaza. With the theme "A Modern Night," I created 36 modern succulent branches as the centerpiece for each participant's table. The result was marvelous.

{ Seven 4 One Wedding }

On Saturday, July 25th, the Pacific Ocean created the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous coastal wedding at the boutique hotel Seven4One in famous Laguna Beach. The incredible floral designer Hannah Koo and I were privileged to create all of the floral arrangement for this special event.

We designed 2 dramatic alter pieces for the sunset ceremony, several lavish bouquets to dress up the chain link screens at the cocktail party, and the elegant centerpieces for the dinner reception. So gorgeous!
